Why Does Gel Polish Color Transfer to the Top-Coat Brush?

If color appears on your top-coat brush, pause before continuing across the hand. A trace of color does not identify the cause by itself, but it is a reason to check the application and curing process rather than simply pressing harder with the top.

Review the color layer

Was the product applied in the specified thickness? Did it receive the full cure in a compatible lamp? Were the fingers positioned correctly? Highly pigmented shades deserve the same careful attention to instructions as any other color.

Do not conclude that a layer is correctly cured only because it looks firm. Conversely, a normal inhibition layer should not be confused automatically with failed curing.

Watch brush pressure

LiNTO guidance recommends placing the top-coat brush relatively parallel to the nail and avoiding pressure that drags through the color. This is a handling improvement, not a substitute for correct curing.

If the color visibly moves, wrinkles, or behaves abnormally, stop and investigate. Do not cover the problem with a thicker layer of top.

Record the details that help

  • Exact color and batch, where available.
  • Number and thickness of coats.
  • Lamp model, mode, and curing schedule.
  • Whether the issue affects one shade or several.

Follow the manufacturer’s advice for the affected brush and coating before continuing. The useful distinction is between brush technique and a possible curing problem. Improving one must not become a way to ignore the other.
