Does Every Client Need a Nail Dehydrator?

A nail dehydrator does not have to be an automatic step in every manicure. Within LiNTO’s preparation guidance, DEHYDRATOR is particularly relevant for excess surface moisture and humid working conditions. The decision should follow the nail assessment and your product instructions.

Look at the appointment, not just the bottle

Does the client’s skin remain noticeably moist during preparation? Does the prepared nail need reassessment before coating? Have you changed the working environment? These observations are more useful than the assumption that every lifting problem means the nail needs more dehydrator.

Persistent sweating or changes in the nail are not conditions for a nail technician to diagnose. Keep your assessment focused on whether the cosmetic service is appropriate.

Keep cleansing and dehydration separate

A dehydrator is not a substitute for removing dust and residue. Prepare and cleanse the surface first, then use DEHYDRATOR where the LiNTO protocol calls for it. Do not compensate for incomplete preparation with repeated layers of liquid.

Keep the routine controlled

  • Apply the product in the amount and sequence specified.
  • Keep product away from unintended areas.
  • Avoid touching the prepared nail before the next step.
  • Record any change when investigating wear problems.

If a client wears their coating well with the approved routine, there is little value in adding unnecessary steps. If wear changes, review the entire service—including the coating, preparation, and curing—rather than making the dehydrator your only variable.
