Soak-Off or File-Off: Choosing the Correct Removal Method
Before choosing a removal method, identify what is actually on the nail. “Gel” can refer to different coating types in everyday conversation, and a bottle does not tell you whether the material should be soaked off or filed off.
What does LiNTO guidance distinguish?
LiNTO’s product guidance describes thin applications of relevant base and gel-polish coatings as suitable for removal by soaking, following their instructions. Hard gels intended for modeling require filing rather than an assumed soak-off method.
The complete system matters. A top layer may need preparation before remover can work as intended, and a thick or mixed coating should not be treated as an unknown version of a familiar service.
Identify before you start
- Check the original service record or ask what products were used.
- Distinguish base, color, top, and structural gel.
- Read the specified removal process for that combination.
- Use the professional technique appropriate to your training.
If the product is unknown, do not guess based on appearance. Seek clarification and assess the nail carefully before choosing a removal route.
Do not force the finish
A coating should not be peeled, pried, or scraped away aggressively because it has not released as expected. Stop and reassess the method rather than pulling material from the natural nail.
The same restraint applies to filing: the aim is controlled removal or reduction, not unnecessary thinning of the nail plate. If the client reports pain or the nail shows an unexplained change, pause and arrange the appropriate assessment before another cosmetic coating is applied.
